Short Summary –

Ready Player One is science fiction novel released in 2011, and the debut novel of American author Ernest Cline. which has become a worldwide phenomenon. The movie was released in year 2018 and the film is set in a dystopia 2045, with the world on the brink of chaos and collapse. However the people have discovered an escape in the OASIS, a virtual reality universe created by the brilliant James Halliday. When Halliday dies, he leaves his entire fortune in some digital Easter egg. The first person to find this egg which he has hidden somewhere in the OASIS, sparks a contest that grips the entire world. The lead protagonist Wade Watts goes on his search for an Easter egg in this worldwide virtual reality game, to discover the egg which will lead him to inherit the game creator's fortune. When he decides to join the contest, he is thrown into a fast, nerve-wrecking treasure hunt through a fantastical universe of secrets and dangers. ^The book received an Alex Award in 2011 from the Young Adult Library Services Association division of the American Library Associationand won the 2012 Prometheus Award. The movie was directed by Spielberg, screenplay by Zak Penn and Ernest Cline.

Companionship & Teamwork:

For any heroic victory to be achieved, teamwork and supportive companionship remains the single main ingredient for success. Even in the CGI and high tech gizmo world, one needs to stay strong on friendship. No success is ever achieved alone. The most successful people are surrounded by those who help amplify their efforts. During the final moments of achieving success, he needed rely on his former competitors who later turned good friends, to complete the quest. Once you build your team and have a strong network, you’ll be amazed at what you can achieve together! Parzival and the other competitors would have lost the quest to the villain if they weren’t connected well.

As you stroll down your path to success, networking is going to be an invaluable skill to have. It’s all about building and maintaining relationships.

Experiential learning:

Any success comes with not just hard work but also focussing on the experience. Learning from your successors or idols or heroes mistake and progressing ahead. Parzival achieved his in-game success because he did his expansive research on Halliday, his history, and his motivations. He did idealize Wade, but also made sure he doesn’t make the same mistakes as the late inventor made. Staying curious, keep learning and never stop asking questions.

Be an Opportunists:

The contest goes for about 5 years before Parzival Halliday’s Egg. In these years he diligently studied Halliday and created journal on the creator. He became obsessed. When you want to achieve your goal or, you must work as if you already have the opportunity ahead of you. Don’t wait for the opportunity to potentially cross your path before putting in the work; always be ready! Use discipline to learn about your dream and progress towards your goal. Learn a new skill, connect with mentors to help you, the fact is a little curiosity and a willingness to learn is enough for the thrust.

Reality Check:

Online cannot be the only setting where people gain a sense of belonging, interaction, or success. Have fun, be yourself, and aim high, but do so with limits and an anchor for the real humanity that lies unblocked.

Success is only the first step:

Parzival had a significant lead on his competitors and felt invincible. Being one of the first people solve the first puzzle, he felt like he had a leg up and was somehow smarter than the other contestants. But he was proved wrong and others caught up and even outdo him. he became a celebrity for solving the puzzle made more money than he dreamed possible. The new security achieved suddenly pulled him away from his mission of solving the remaining two pieces of the puzzle.

One thing the super successful people have in common is that they never settle and never stop. They achieve a goal and immediately move to another and it goes on and hence they are considered successful and sustainable. When you achieve success, it will be easy to reach the shore. You’ll want to enjoy your hard work. However, too much of a good thing is not so good. It’s important to keep trying to progress. Satisfaction will cause you to regress.

Invoke positive feelings:

As Ready Player One begins, you hear the beat of a positive, upbeat song the positive feelings invoked by the song makes up for any sadness one may feel for the new look of the city. For a leader, things aren’t always smooth. Trials and tribulations will come keep crossing paths. Active response and engaging the team will make a difference. Motivate the team to get over failures or fears by invoking positive feelings.

Leader in you:

The role of a leader is extremely crucial in achieving success and they have to perform multiple roles in the process. Give direction to your team but allow your team to find the way. When Halliday unveiled the Quest, he told users of OASIS what they could win. He didn’t tell them how to get there. He left that up to the players. Leaders need to be able to give direction and let their team know where they need to go. Great leaders only give direction and then let their team find a viable way to the solution. Cheer on your team members and look at your competitors too with respect. Going backward and forward as a leader is helpful, too much rigidity can break the mission. Great leaders need to be courageous and not shy away with failures.

Inevitably:

The ultimate lesson is, inevitably: don’t live in the past and don’t spend too much time on your computer. Go outside, play a sport, make real friends and live a real life.
