Paul Gauguin has been identified as one of the most influential artists of France, who had developed a new style which was identified as symbolism. He had experimented with new theories of colour, when there was culmination of the impressionist movement. These were also identified as being semi decorative approaches.

He had studied a number of ideas and educated himself in the Caribbean, with the development of a gradual synthetic form of painting, which would also be serving as symbolism. One of the earliest works of Gauguin which displayed symbolism is the yellow Christ.

this is the work that was put forth in 1889, which has displayed Christ’s crucifixion where, women have been seen to be engaged in prayers. This was followed by the green Christ. The colour used here is yellow, which was seen through a wood sculpture. He has used the dominant yellow colour, symbolising Christ. Autumn palettes have been used here, and shading has only been done for the women present around.
