A sample of gas has a volume of 3.75 L at a temperature of 42.60 °C. The gas sample iscooled to a temperature of -1.04 °C (assume pressure and amount of gas are held constant). Predict whether the new volume is greater or less than the original volume, and calculate the new volume.

Answer #1

As we know that ideal gas equation is

PV = nRT

Now here as pressure and amount of gas is constant

Volume will be proportional to the temperature.

So in our case as the temperature is decreased the volume of the gas must be decreased , so new volume will be less than the original volume .this is our prediction .

Now let's see the detailed answer:

NEW VOLUME = 3.24L
