For each of the following statements, determine if it is TRUE or FALSE. If false, explain why or
rewrite the statement such that it is true.

1. Reactions generally start at equilibrium and stay there.

2. In cells, the product of one reaction is often the substrate for another reaction.

3. The energy of reactants at the start of an uncatalyzed reaction is different from the energy of
reactants at the start of a catalyzed reaction.

4. An uncatalyzed reaction has a lower activation energy compared to the activation energy of
a catalyzed reaction.

Answer #1

1. False, a reaction attains equilibrium after the concentration of the products and reactants are in concentrations that do not have a tendency to change any further or we can also say that equilibrium is achieved when the rate of forward reaction is equal to the rate of backward reaction and remains in equilibrium until there is change of factors like pressure, concentration of product or reactant, pH etc.

2. True

3. False, The energy of a reactant is same irrespective of the presence of catalyst rather the catalyst changes the activation energy of the reaction.

4. False, an uncatalysed reaction has a higher activation energy compared to catalysed reaction.
