The "last mile of broadband access" is the phrase which is widely used in the internet or broadband which refers to the final leg of the broadband networks which delivers the services to retail end-users (customers). The last mile is the portion of the broadband network chain which reaches the end user's premises.
The last mile is the problem in such cases in which there is a speed bottleneck in communication networks and also the bandwidth effectively limits the bandwidth of data which is supposed to be delivered to the customer. This is the case for the modern optical fiber cabling as well, delivering the broadband to the customers, the last mile is typically twisted pair wires which thus is a bottleneck and reduces the speeds, this is also in relation with the technology that has for long remained unchanged.
The solutions range from fixed wireless access, where a wireless network is used and not a wired network is used to connect a stationary terminal to the wireline network, thus mitigating this problem.
