A researcher wants to determine if lead levels are different between the top of a glass of water and the bottom of a glass of water. Many samples of water are taken. From half, the lead level at the top is measured and from half, the lead level at the bottom is measured. Would this be a valid matched pair test?

Answer #1

A matched paired test is used to see whether there is a significant difference between two sets of paired data.

This would not be a valid matched pair test. Because the test is applied on two different sample. In matched paired test we use the same sample. But here the sample is different.

Hence this is not a valid paired test.
