Is static head the same as minimum pressure? I understand static head in the context of pumped systems i.e. Static vs. Dynamic heads. However for gravity systems I noticed some people using Static Head to Express minimum pressures. Could it be the same as total (pisometric head)?
Thank you

Answer #1

Static head can not be referred as minimum pressure. Static head is the head generated by static fluid for example in case of water in the beaker. In this case, pressure generated in the bottom of the beaker is the static head. The static head of a pump is the maximum height (pressure) it can deliver

Dynamic head is due to moving fluid and it is given by velocity squares divided by twice of 'g'.

With this context you can understand that, Static head is not the depiction of minimum pressure. It just provide the head of the water under stationary condition.

If water is flow than Static head and Dynamic head both plays the vital role in calculation of pressure

STAGNATION HEAD = Static Head + Dynamic Head

where, stagnation head is the head of flowing fluid at a point when brought to rest. So stagnation head is generally used for pressure calculation. In most general cases, Stagnation head is minimum when the fluid is stationary and due to this reason in some questions, Static head gives the value of minimum pressure.

please answer the following questions so I can understand, thank you very much! A mass, m, is attached to a massless string of length l; the other end of the string is attached to a rigid and frictionless support. While keeping the string taut, the mass is raised to a height h (see diagram) and released. Under the force of gravity (g = 9.8 m/s), the motion of the mass follows the dashed line (i.e., it's a pendulum). (a) Draw...
