Think about times in your life when you have been absolutely elated (e.g., perhaps your school’s basketball team just won a closely contested ballgame for the national championship) and very fearful (e.g., you are about to give a speech in your public speaking class to a roomful of 100 strangers). How would you describe how your arousal manifested itself physically? Were there marked differences in physiological arousal associated with each emotional state?

Answer #1

Such arousal stimulates our various glands. When one is absolutely elated, arousal spreads through the Sympathetic Nervous system. Other non-urgent systems remain suppressed. It causes the increase of heart beat and breathing. For the flow of extra oxygen one is able to do physical action. At that moment body perspires to maintain the normal temperature of the body. Then one feels fresh and active. He is able to do extra work. The person feels encouraged and active .

In case of fear there is also arousal. The human body always desires to remain in the state of homeostasis. This is a stable condition. In case of fear or tension there is also extra heart beat. there is fluctuation of body temperature and pressure. Sometimes whole body shivers. There is also perspiration to maintain the body temperature and we feel such unnatural condition temporarily. Immediately, body returns to the state of homeostasis.
