(Wood, 2005) in his study titled “Cognitive Dissonance in Groups: The Consequences of Disagreement” conduct three different studies to get an insight into Cognitive Dissonance in Groups. The objective of the study was to determine

The dissonance discomfort experienced by the group with another group who disagree with them and another group who agrees with them.

1^st Study

Research Methodology: The Study adopted an empirical research design. 142 females and 47 males were considered for the study. Every data were collected from the students, who are considered as the sample respondents. The study area is confined to A&M University Texas. The data was collected through the Questionnaire. The Participants are provided with 7 points Likert scale to answer the questions.

Analysis: Descriptive statistics such as mean, median, the standard deviation was measured. Further, the authors used the ANOVA statistical technique to measure the significant difference in opinion of the respondents using the variance estimated.

Findings: The findings using the above analysis indicated that the students in a group with others who ostensibly disagreed with them experienced greater dissonance discomfort than those in a group with others who agreed.

2^nd Study

• Lack of choice and opportunity to self-affirm,
• Similarly reduced dissonance discomfort generated by group disagreement

Study 3

Findings: According to the analysis made the dissonance induced by group disagreement was reduced through;

• Interpersonal strategies to achieve consensus
• Action mentality to including persuading others,
• Changing one’s own position, and
• Joining an attitudinally congenial group.

Personal Views:

Herein the research methodology consists of Students as the sample respondent, if this study is extended even among working population a greater insight could be brought. Further the sample size considered by the authors is less considerably, this could have increased.
