Answer #1

The number line is partitioned into two sections based on positive and negative numbers.

Positive numbers are depicted on the right side of the number 0 on the number line, while negative numbers are shown on the left side of the number 0.

Initially, Mpho has R5 and spends R8 on a packet of chips at the tuckshop. Starting from the number 5 on the number line due to having R5.

Since the packet of chips costs R8, which is more than what she had, she moves 8 steps backward on the number line.

After moving 8 steps back from the number 5, -3 is the number on the number line.

It is evident that her money decreases as she has less than the chip's actual price.

The following day, she brings R10 to the tuckshop. Consequently, she moves 10 steps forward on the number line from -3. The result is 7 to the right of zero.

In this case, her money increases as she brings R10 to the tuckshop and moves forward on the number line.

Upon purchasing a lolly for R2, she moves 2 steps back on the number line from 7. The result is 5 on the number line.

Her money decreases as she buys another lolly for R2, moving 2 steps back on the number line.

Therefore, her money fluctuates with each purchase, ultimately buying a lolly for R2, represented as 5 on the number line.
