Does smoking hurt the lungs of children’s who are exposed to adult smoking?
Forced vital capacity (FVC) stands for the volume of air that children can exhale in 10 seconds. A scientist collects a sample of 30 children who have been consistently exposed to adult smoking and 30 children who have not been consistently exposed to adult smoking. Amongst children exposed to smoke, the mean FVC is 74 with a standard deviation of 9. Amongst children not exposed to smoke, the mean FVC is 88 with a standard deviation of 15. Is the mean FVC different in the population of children exposed to parental smoking?
