The data were obtained by mixing known volumes of methanol and water to obtain the desired solvent compositions, and then slowly adding measured amounts of serine to each mixture until no more would go into solution. The temperature was help constant as 10.0oC.

  1. Derive an expression for mass fraction of methanol in solvent, x, as a function of volume fraction of methanol in solvent, f.
  2. Prepare a spreadsheet of solubility of serine (g serine/g solution) versus mass fraction of methanol

Assume the density of water and methanol are 1 g/mL and 0.792 g/mL, respectively. Also, assume the "100 mL solvent" in the units of solubility shown in the second row of the table is the final volume of solvent after mixing the water and methanol.

******* once you plot it correctly, youre apparently suppose to get the equation y=.9956x-.0296..... i keep getting y= -.21x+.1707*******

Principles of Inorganic Chemistry! Week 5 Effect of Temperature on Solubility of a Salt In this experiment, you will study the effect of changing temperature on the amount of solute that will dissolve in a given amount of water. Water solubility is an important physical property in chemistry, and is often expressed as the mass of solute that dissolves in 100 g of water at a certain temperature. In this experiment, you will completely dissolve different quantities of potassium nitrate,...
