Answer #1

Rene Descartes dualism is the earlier concept which defines that our mind and body are two different entities and that they interact through the part of our body called pineal gland. He also mentioned that the body has physical mechanism and which can be measured where as the minds process is not measurable. He formulated reality as the combination of the thinking substance that is the mind and the elaborated substance which is the body or the matter.

His distinction between mind and body and convergence of mind and soul, all of which are highly inclined toward the earlier belief of immortality of the soul. Even though there was no specific distinction between mind and soul, he had marked a distinction between the body and mind.
