Question

performance coefficient used to heat house

Find the maximum possible coefficient of performance for a heat pump used to heat a house in a northerly climate in winter.

The inside is kept at 24^circ{rm C} while the outside is -24^circ{rm C}.

Answer #1
Inside temperature T = 24 o C
                                = 24 + 273
                                = 297 K
Out side temperature T ' = -24 o C
                                     = -24 + 273
                                     = 249 K
COP max = T / (T - T ' )
               = 6.18
