Diagramming a cross using a Punnett square

Punnett squares can be used to predict the two possible outcomes of the botanist’s test cross. The Punnett square on the left shows the predicted result if theunknown plant is homozygous (GG); the Punnett square on the right shows the predicted result if the unknown plant is heterozygous (Gg).

Homozygous green pod plant


Since it is a testcross that means that you are crossing different phenotypes or genotypes in order to determine which genes are recessive. This is so since you are crossing GG to gg to see if G is dominant to g. The answer is yes since all heterzygous have a green phenotype


The ratio is 1:0 since there is no yellow phenotype portrayed since it is overcome by the dominant G allele


Heterzygous green pod:


Due to crossing a heterzygous with a homozygous recessive. one gets a 1:1 ratio which means that tehre is equal probability of getting a yellow pod as there is getting a green pod
