6 necessary and sufficient condition for person centered change
One of the most important conditions necessary for a person centred change is a better relationship between the counselor and the client. This requires the counselor to build a healthy relationship that would help the client trust the counselor and the counseling process. Secondly, the client needs to be incongruent or should know that they have some issue, only then the client would look for some help from the counselor. Thirdly, the counsellor needs to be congruent so that the counselor knows what therapy or process would work well for the client. The words and actions of the counselor should match. Fourthly, the counselor should show empathy and the client should feel that they receive empathy from the counselor. Then they would cooperate well. Fifthly, the counselor needs to show unconditional positive regards to the client thus accepting them with all their positives and negatives. Finally, the client needs to recognize the unconditional positive regards, thus working towards a positive change.
