Answer #1

According to the needs of the Hotel Management System, the most suited type of database is the Centralised Databases, because:

  • Data integrity is maximized and data redundancy is minimised. This aids in the maintaining of data as accurate and as consistent as possible and enhances data reliability.
  • Generally bigger data security, as the single data storage location implies only a one possible place from which the database can be attacked and sets of data can be stolen or tampered with.
  • More cost effective than other types of database systems as labor, power supply and maintenance costs are all minimized.
  • All the information can be accessed at the same time from the same location.[
  • Updates to any given set of data are immediately received by every end-user.

To build these centralized Databases the Relational Databases are the most appropriate type of DBMS. They use SQL, to build tables which easily manageable. Searching, Editing into a Database becomes easier. Makes more organised database which are Easily understood and hence flexible.

Other type of databases are not possible because of the type of requirement here being generated, Centralised Databases are the best suited category because of all the above mentioned features that other type of databases would not possess for the given problem statement.

Story Board:

User Interfaces:

  • Main: Consists links to search for the available rooms, do the booking and accept the payment.
  • Availability: Searches for the available room, based on the preferences told by the customer.
  • Booking: Based on the selected room and other facility preferences, books the room.
  • Payment: Based on the services used by the user during stay, bill is being generated, and redirects to payment gateway, and marks the payment complete in the database on the fulfilment of the payment.

Story:

A Customer visits the Hotel.

  • Main: Tell the preferences Sir.
  • Customer: AC, Double-bed.
  • Main: Hey Availability, search for the available rooms based on the inputs I am giving.
  • Availability: Here is the list of rooms available in the criteria.
  • Main: Sir, Rooms are available at $200, per day.
  • Main: Hey Booking, a room needs to be booked.
  • Booking: Please mention the details.
  • Customer: Name- Sam, Number- xxxxx xxxxx, ID proof- xxx xx xx xx.
  • Booking: (after updating the database), Main I have done the booking.
  • Main: Thank you, here are your keys.

After a few days..

  • Customer: Hey Main, I need to checkout, can you please generate the final bill.
  • Main: Hey Payment, a check-out needs to be done.
  • Payment: Input room number to get the details of services used by the customer.
  • Payment: Sir, your bill is $425, please tell the mode of payment.
  • Customer: cash. Here is your money.
  • Payment: Is the payment done?
  • End-User: Yes.
  • Payment: Updating the databases. Thank you.

If Same services given in mobile apps, then:

  • On searching for the room in a hotel, after entering the preferences only the category and price of the available room needs to be displayed instead of the list of all the rooms available.
  • Validation of the ID proof needs to be done, hence uploading of the ID proof needs to be added to the app.
  • If booking needs to be done by mobile app, then cash payment method can be avoided, if instant payments are necessary.

Security controls the system needs are:

Since, the user of the systems are now spatially separated, hence they are accessing the system online. They have the access to modify the database by booking the room and making the payment, or by cancelling the room. Hence, security breaches to the databases are now possible.

All connections to databases in the system are made through Intelligence Server. This means that only the Intelligence Server machine needs to have database connectivity. This is called connectionless client, where client fees that it is connected to the databases or is modifying the databases but are actually not connected the databases.
