c) For increasing the efficiency of the system as clear from the unary phase diagram of water, the water should be used in the form of steam and with high pressure since heat transfer rate is much more higher in case of steam as compared to water.

d) Due to low thermal conductivity of thread we are not able to cut the ice, from unary phase diagram of water for cutting the ice it should have a minimum pressure applied, but with the help of thread pressure cant be higher than a limiting value.
