This is a practice MCAT
problem from The Princeton Review. I would have thought that there
was an oxidation/reduction reaction with raclopride-H+ losing a
proton. What am I missing here?
Thanks!
Esters can be hydrolysed in both acid and basic medium.
Above example is an acid catalysed hydrolysis. The process is catalysed by H+ to enhance the electrophilicity of the carbonyl carbon by orotonation of its oxygen. Water acts as nucleophile .Further it eliminates alcohol to form an acid.
Mechanism is given below
There is no change in oxidation state of any atons or ions.
Therefore it is only an elimination reaction.

1) The toxicants pass through the cell membranes by what is known as, "passive diffusion" which depends on (a) pore size (b) concentration gradients across the membrane (c) lipid solubility (d) the diastolic and systolic blood pressure in the individual 2) In toxicokinetics the rate of elimination of administered substances is measured from the area plots of concentrations versus time. Among the following substances which one would you expect to be excreted out at the slowest rate? (a) glucose...
b) Give the uses of the each of the polysaccharides below: [4 marks] i. Amylose ii. Cellulose iii. Glycogen iv. Peptidoglycan c) In a lab experiment, Ngosa and Melinda synthesized an artificial polysaccharide containing four glucose units, one galactose unit and one fructose unit. Upon acid hydrolysis of the polysaccharide with three water molecules, they obtained two disaccharides and two monosaccharide units. If the monosaccharide units obtained were a glucose unit and galactose unit, what were the two other molecules...

PART II: REACTIONS: Here is another different" question. Pretend you have been asked by me to put together a bunch of one-step reactions WITH starting materials (your choice), reagents and answers to help me with writing a final exam. For example: let's say I ask you to give an example of a free radical chlorination with a non-cyclic compound. Below would be your answer. As I am pretty sure you can figure out, there are millions of...
