Answer #1

degree of freedom for chi square test = (row-1)(column-1) = (2-1)(3-1) = 2

α=0.05

criitcal value (0.05,2) = 5.9915 [from chi square table ]

critical range= √critical value * √ (pi*qi/ni + pj*qj/nj )

Sample Proportions
Group 1 (18-34) 0.59
Group 2   (35-64) 0.36
Group 3   (65+) 0.13

Critical Range number when comparing 18-34 group with 35-64 group = √5.9915 * √ (0.59*0.41/200 + 0.36*0.64/200) = 0.1189

Critical Range number when comparing 18-34 group with 65+ group = √5.9915 * √(0.59*0.41/200 + 0.13*0.87/200) =0.1031

Critical Range number when comparing 65+ group with 35-64 group = √5.9915 * √(0.36*0.64/200 + 0.13*0.87/200) = 0.1014

proportion difference number when comparing 18-34 group with 35-64 group = 0.59-0.36 = 0.23

conclusion when comparing 18-34 group with 35-64 group---------------

absolute difference of proportion = 0.23 > critical range=0.1189 , difference of proportion is significant.

    When only two treatments are involved, ANOVA and the Student’s t test (Chapter 11) result in the same conclusions. Also, for computed test statistics, t2 = F. To demonstrate this relationship, use the following example. Fourteen randomly selected students enrolled in a history course were divided into two groups, one consisting of 6 students who took the course in the normal lecture format. The other group of 8 students took the course as a distance course format. At the end...
