Beyond the Textbook Air Quality The quality of the air is determined by the concentration of particu- lates and chemical compounds. Air quality is measured around the world, and alerts are issued when the air becomes unhealthy Activities Go to the Real-time Air Quality Index Visual Map at http://aqicn.org/map/ to see current Air Quality Index (AQ) measurements. Zoom out to see the entire world map.
7. Do any of the pollutants exhibit a diurnal cycle? If so, which one(s)? 8. What is air quality forecast for the next few days? 9. Based on the forecast, is there a relationship between temperature and air quality? What is this relationship? Go back to the map and zoom into a station close to your own location. 10. Repeat steps 3 through 9, and summarize the differences between the two stations you examined.
Styles Beyond the Textbook (Activities) 1) List three countries that have the high AQI values (over 200) What are some of the highest values shown on the map? Answer. The air quality index is based on the particulate matter, ozone, Nitrogen dioxide sulfur dioxide, and Carbon Monoxide. The values of the AQI is as indicated starting at 0-50 being good (green), 51-100 being moderate (yellow), 101-150 unhealthy for sensitive groups (orange). 151 to 200 unhealthy (red). 201 to 300 very unhealthy (purple) and 301 to 500 hazardous (maroon). The three countries with high AQI values (above 200) and some of the highest AQI values on the map could include Mexico which has an Air Quality Index of 882 Spain which has an Air Quality Index of 517 and China which has an Air Quality Index of 451 2) List some regions that have the lowest AQI values. Click bar and then click the link to see the full report Answer: The regions having some of the lowest AQI values are Parkgate, Anchorage Alaska, Mountain View, Hawai, USA, Cape Point, Cape Town, South Africa; Stokes Halls, Australia; and Ashburton, New Zealand the name of this Answer. The name of the location is Monitoring Station, Zhangye, China. The station was last updated on- 2300hrs on the 58 of April 2019-Friday 4) What is the AQ1 value, and what is the danger level? Answer: The AQI value is 574 and the danger level is hazardous 5) Which types of air responsible for the high AQl vale? Answer. The types of pollution monitored at this station are PM25, PM10, 03, NO2, sO2, 6) W Answer. The result of this Particulate pollution or Particulate matter (PM) which is the are the adverse effects they cause? combination of solids and liquad droplets floating in aar release from a specific source or chemical reaction into the atmosphere This includes the Course dust particles (PM10) and the Fine Particles ( PM25). The Course dust particles are approximately 2.5 to 10 micrometers in diameter. These are a result of operations such as crushing. grinding, and dust released from automobiles. The Fine particles are 2.5 micrometers in diameter or smaller burning, global forest fires as well as incimeration of agricultural wastes. The adverse effects of these pollutants include Asthma, Difficulty in breathing as well as coughing, wheezing chest congestion, iregular heartbeat, reduced lung function, irritation of eyes, nose, throat attack and lastly early death

Answer #1

7.a diurnal cycle is any pattern that recurs every 24 hours as a result of one full rotation of the earth around its own asis.

the most such similar partern is the diurnal temperature variation.such a cycle may be approximately sinusoidal,or include components of a truncated sinusoid dueto the sun rising and setting.diurnal cycle of environmental conditions (light or temperature) can result in similar cycle in dependant biological process.

8.The air district issues a daily air quality forecast that predicts air pollution levels for the coming five days period.this forecast uses the u.s EPA's air quality index scale.

9.In a temperature inversion ,cold air is trapped near the ground by a layer of warm air.The warm air acts like a lid, holding these substances down.During a temperature inversion, smoke cant rise and carbon monoxide can reach unhealthy levels.

Beijing, China’s capital city, has been plagued with seri- ous air pollution. Of particular concern is a pollutant called fine particulate matter (PM), composed of a mix of solid and liquid particles, including sulfate, nitrates, ammonia, sodium chloride, carbon, mineral dust, and water. When people inhale PM that is 2.5 micrometers or smaller (called PM 2.5), it interferes with gas ex- change in the lungs and contributes to development of lung cancer and cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. 10. Write a one-page summary of the attached paper? INTRODUCTION Many problems can develop in activated sludge operation that adversely affect effluent quality with origins in the engineering, hydraulic and microbiological components of the process. The real "heart" of the activated sludge system is the development and maintenance of a mixed microbial culture (activated sludge) that treats wastewater and which can be managed. One definition of a wastewater treatment plant operator is a "bug farmer", one who controls the aeration...
