Answer #1

Coercive organization are those institutes where inmates are made to join with legal mandate or without their consent. Let’s take an example of any big prison in UK. Typically, UK prisons would consist of 2 types of groups in the prison, one is Inmates and other ones are staff members. Typically, staff members would join the jail as per their consent as they want to learn and earn for their livelihood.

On the other hand, inmates would be forced to confine in the prison until they serve their sentences.

Coercive organization like Prison is being run by strict rules and daily routines. Considering there are 2 different type of population in the jail i.e. inmates and staff, there is possibility of a tussle or fight between these 2 groups. Here inmates can make the life of staff miserable while disobeying their rules and instructions but at the same time there are chances of intra-group tussle as well between the inmates. Some of the possible factors, which could impact & influence their organization could be the Rivalry between small groups, in fights, tendency to dominate the proceedings, lack of jail disciplines and tendency to flee away from the organization.

Some of the possible measure which could be taken by the Prison authorities could be imposing the strict rule and round the clock monitoring of the inmates. Conducting the psychometric analysis of each of the inmates and understanding their behaviour pattern, and identifying those people who could pose a serious threat to Jail’s peace and discipline.

Either they could be isolated from the bigger group or their mental counselling can be conducted to make them understand their purpose of staying that organization and also making them convinced to contribute in small possible way in the growth of the organization.
