Packings are generally used in small diameter towers. For random packing , the minimum tower diameter should be greater than or equal to 8 times the nominal packing diameter. This is to insures that the packing will adequately fill the column cross-sectional area and will provide a packed bed with a uniform bulk density.
If the diameter of random packing tower is larger than 1 metre, the tower require more number of packing materials , that increases the cost of equipment and the liquid that channels through the packing is very high, that affects the efficiency of the process.
If the column diameter is greater than 0.9 metre the size of the packing should be 2 to 3 inch. It is very difficult to maintain constant density throughout the packing with such bigger packing materials. As mentioned earlier ,it also increases channeling and bypassing of the fluid.
If the diameter of the random packing tower is larger than 1 m ,is this reasonable ?explain why?
2 Packing for a tower is made by cutting 1" diameter pipe into 1/2 " long segments. Calculate the specific surface and effective diameter assuming the pipe is Schedule 40 steel pipe The rings are used to fill a packed column 12 ft high through which air is flowing at a superficial velocity of 35 ft/sec. Find the pressure drop. The porosity is.80
Explain why Ka for H2SO4 is larger than Ka for H2SO3.
A compression spring is needed to fit within a 1-in diameter hole. To allow for some clearance, the outside diameter of the spring is to be no larger than 0.9 in. To ensure a reasonable coil, use a spring index of 8. The spring is to be used in a machine by compressing it from a free length of 2 in to a solid length of 0.6667 in. The spring should have squared ends, and should be unpeened, and is...
Explain why 2 extractions with 2 smaller volumes of solvent is more effective than 1 larger extraction.
Why is the ratio of the flow rate more than 2 even though the larger tube is only twice the diameter of the small tube
explain why a small dog's tail wags faster than the tail of a larger dog.
20. A cylindrical water tower of diameter 3.0 m supplies water to a house. The level of water in the water tower is 35 m above the point where the water enters the house through a pipe that has an inside diameter 5.0 cm. The pressure at the top of the water tower is I ATM and the water in the cylindrical tank flows slowly at a speed of 0.01 cm/s. At what speed does the water flow in the...
A wind turbine with a blade diameter of 50 m, tower height of 60 m and wind speed of 10 m/s at ground level and the air density is 1.23 kg/m3 is operating. Calculate the actual power that can be harnessed from this wind turbine.
Explain why this statement is false: Ba is larger than Sr because the last electron added has a higher value of angular momentum quantum number (l).
10. A cylindrical water tower of diameter 3.0 m supplies water to a house. The level of water in the water tower is 40 m above the point where the water enters the house through a pipe that has an inside diameter 5.1cm. The intake pipe delivers water at a maximum rate of 2.0 x10-3 m3/s. The pipe is connected to a narrower pipe leading to the second floor that has an inside diameter 2.5 cm. What is the pressure...
