Usually for transition elements filling takes place in the inner
d orbitals
In 5th period Ag supposed to have [Kr] 5s2 4d9 configuration
.But
it is not so.This is is due to extra stability which Ag will
get when it has a completely filled d orbital
configuration.4d10
configuration lowers its energy and become more stable.Where as
Yttrium
doesnt have that kind of stability .Hence it follow usual trend[ 5s
orbitals
filled first ,then 4d filling takes place]

A neutral atom has the following electron configuration: [Kr] 5s²4a 1º5p2 What is the chemical symbol for the atom? How many electrons does the atom have? How many 5p electrons are in the atom?
The experimental ground state electronic configuration of a silver (Ag) atom is exceptional in that it does not agree with the configuration predicted by the nl rule. The following questions pertain to the ground state of a hypothetical Ag atom, whose electron configuration does conform to the n l rule. Recall that Ag has 47 electrons a) What ground state electron configuration would Ag have if it conformed to the nl rule? b) What would the ground state term symbol...
