You have an Asian-American client who has adjusted a very busy schedule in order to be able to attend therapy sessions. You cancel a session to attend a funeral for a family member. The client becomes irate and demands to be told the reason why you cancelled.
I would try to explain to the client the family exigency that caused me to cancel the session. It should be clearly noted that for anyone and everyone ,the family comes first and is our priority. During the funeral, it is our duty to be there and happens to be the expectation from us to be part of the family during this hour of need t give each other strength. In this case, the client needs to understand the emergency situation and then decide to act like wise. Some things are best explained with patience and understanding and keeping us in the other person's situation.
