The role has been changed completely.
Earlier when there was no computer, all the works were manual like keeping records, arranging files, making journal vouchers for adjustments, etc. An accountant was not able to perform all these duties alone; they usually took help from others for discharging these responsibilities.

An accountant can do all these solely, because by putting one voucher entry the corresponding cash book, ledger accounts, balance sheet, etc. are prepared. Not only that, the correctness is assured. Therefore, the accountant now must be more responsible for making the correct entry and getting the correct result. The duty of an accountant today is to improve the skill continuously.
Compare the role of accountant today to his or her role before introduction of computer technology. How have the responsibilities and duties changed overtime ?
