* First find out the number of generations,

Let it be n (no. of generations) = Total time for division ÷ Time for one division

Here it is given that the E.coli has a generation time of 60 minutes (ie, the time for one division= 60 min= 1hr) and the total time for division is 6hours.

Therefore, n = 6/1 = 6

You can answer any question like this using the given formula,

f = i x 2^n

Where f = final number of bacteria

i = initial number of bacteria = 2

n = number of generations = 6

So, f = 2 x 2^6

= 2 x 64

f = 128

ie, There will be 128 E.coli cells in the culture tube when she comes back 6 hrs later.
