If this investment will buy 2500 chips, should they make the pur- chase? Why? (3 pts) 5. The production manager has decided to stockpile mechanical drives for an upcoming recall on 1900 computers (that is, reduce the current RHS by 1900). What impact will this have on the contribution (objective value)? (3 pts) 6. To cut costs, Apple wants to reduce the number of high-cap memory chips from 5500 to 4900. Which of the following statements is the most accurate? (1 pt) (a) reducing the number of high-cap memory chips by 600 will not affect total profit (b) reducing the number of high-cap memory chips by 600 will decrease proft by $180,000 (e) reducing the number of high-cap memory chips by 600 could affecet total profit, but we do not have enough information to compute the magnitude of the change
Apple has announced a new family of tablet computers and e-readers with the following code names ·A a high-end, general purpose tablet computer, with touch screen and with large memory disk space . B: a medium-end, general purpose tablet computer with touch screen C: a general purpose tablet computer requiring a tablet pen D: a high-end e-reader with many additional functionalities .E: an e-reader A linear program was constructed to derive the optimal production strategy as: Cell Name Valuet Coefficient Increase Decrease 1200 200 200 E+30 200 SDS7 B 3400 SES7 С 2100 0 800 600 600 0300 500 300 LE+30 300 $GS7 E 3200 1. Suppose that the list price of product A is changed from $1200 to $1399 Which of the following is correct? (1 pt) (a) the sensitivity report says that the optimal solution will not change (b) the objective value will decrease by $39,800 (e) the objective value will change, but we cannot tell by how much 2. Currently, there are no units of model D being produced. What would be the list price at which D would be produced? (1 pt) (a) $500 (b) $600 (c) $1100 3. Suppose the price of product C can be between $400 and $1100 without affecting the optimal solution. What is the allowable increase (X) and decrease (Y) for the product? (3 pts)

Answer #1
4) The shadow price of High Cap memory chips is 300
So buying 2500 chips would increase income by 2500X300 = 750000
And initial investment is 700,000. So net profit is 50,000. Hence purchase should be done
5) It would reduce contribution by 1900X300 = 570000
6) b) Reducing the number of high cap memory chips by 600 will decrease profit by $180,000
