Ans 2 - Average Annual Daily Traffic (AADT) = when the average 24 - hr volume of traffic is recorded at a specific location everyday in a complete 365- day year period , then the total number of vehicles passing this particular point when divided by 365 gives the Average Annual Daily Traffic.

the effectiveness of a site is evaluated by this data also the selection of a new site is based on this data

Average Daily traffic (ADT) = When the average value of 24 - hr traffic passing through a particular point is recorded for a time period of less than a year, then it is known as ADT. this particular time interval may range from any number of months, weeks, days or seasonal variation. The difference between ADT and AADT is that the AADT is valid for the entire year while ADT is only valid for the time period in which it is recorded. but it must be more than one day. The total volume is divided by the number of days counted.

weekly and seasonal variations in traffic can be analysed

Vehicle - miles of travel ( VMT) = It is a measure of the total travel of all types of vehicles in a certain bounded geographical location in a given time interval. this time period is normally 1 - yr.

eg - The travel demand of a region can be analysed and compared with other regions through VMT

Peak - Hour volume = When a particular lane or a group of lanes are concerned during a certain hour of the day when the highest traffic volume is observed, then the volume of traffic that exists in that approach lane, is known as peak hour volume (PHV)

This is used to calculate peak hour factor (PHF) which is used in calculating the level of service of an highway
