  • metabolic rate increases in the gut during periods of rest following a meal.
  • Shivering increases muscle metabolic rate.
  • Oxygen consumption will increase with elevations in metabolic rate.

Note: The metabolic rate in muscles increases during exercise. In homeothermic animals, a bigger size is associated with slow metabolic rate. Eating and digestion increases the metabolic rate.
