In class we also talked about the metabolism of HDL particles. The metabolism of HDL involves the formation of immature HDL particles in the liver. These immature HDL particles (nascent HDL) contain only a small amount of cholesterol and no cholesteryl esters. As HDL particles circulate through the bloodstream, they are transformed into mature HDL particles by picking up extra cholesterol from cholesterol-rich extrahepatic cells. This process is called reverse cholesterol transport. The number of mature HDL particles in circulation is inversely proportional to cardiovascular disease and atherosclerosis. Please describe the basis of this inverse relationship. [100 words should be sufficient for your answer].
HDL is a lipoprotein synthesize by the liver . HDL transport cholesterol molecule from cells to the steroigenic cell. Atherosclerosis is happen when cholesterol molecule aggregate into the endothelium membrane, blocking the blood circulation. When atherosclerosis is happen in the cardiac artery , blood circulation is blocked towards heart.
HDL helps by removing this cholesterol from endothelium membrane and transport it to the liver and other steroigenic tissue. If HDL concentration is low, then this removal of cholesterol is also stop , result in atherosclerosis and cardiovascular disease. This is the fact of inverse relationship.
