Step by Step approach to solve linear equations:

• . Clear any fractions by multiplying all terms on both sides by the LCD (least common denominator).
• Terms with positive signs or terms with negative signs are to be grouped together.
•   Isolate the "x term" (variable) on one side of the equation by adding or subtracting to combine like terms across the equal sign.
•   Divide or multiply both sides of the equation by the coefficient of the variable to solve for "x".
• The answer arrived at, must be put in the equation and checked to be true for both the sides of the equation. i.e both the LHS (Left Hand Side) and the RHS (Right Hand Side) of the equation must be equal.
• If the solution is correct, both the sides of the equation will be equal.
