Q1): It is required to design a condenser that wl be suitable for a refrigeration system that uses refrigerant 22 as the working fluid. The refrigeration system provides a refrigerating capacity of 50 kW for air conditioning purposes. At design conditions, the condensing temperature is 40°C while the evaporating temperature is 0°C. Cooling water enters the condenser at 25°C and leaves at 30°C. Design the condenser (calculate the required heat transfer area and the length of tubes to provide the necessary area). The condenser, to be used, is a two-pass type with 42 tubes, arranged as shown in Fig. 1 below. The tubes are made from aluminum with 12 and 14 mm ID and OD, respectively. Notes: Work in groups of TWO to conduct the task n which the design procedure should be clearly provided (i.e. all quantities, parameters and coefficients need to be presented in the report). It is recommended to use one of the available modern engineering tools to conduct the step-by-step condenser design.
