Q4 The Crankshaft bearing of an automobile engine is lubricated by oil with viscosity of 9.6 10-3 Ns/m" and density of 920 kg/m3. The diameter of the bearing is 0.0762 m and its clearance is a -3.175 x 105 m. The shaft is 3.175 x 102 m long The oil flow in the bearing may be modelled approximately as a flow between two parallel flat plates where the upper plate moves and the lower plate remains fixed as is shown in Figure Q4. The Navier-Stokes equations of motion of the oil flow with suitable assumptions may be expressed as a Op Oil Engine Shaft Figure Q4 i. By applying appropriate boundary conditions, derive the following expression for the velocity component, u, of the oil film, ii. Taking the pressure gradient to be zero, calculate the magnitude of the shear stress acting on the shaft at 2600 rpm iii. Determine the engine torque on the shaft caused by the shear stress iv. Finally, using the torque, determine the engine power dissipated in the bearing
