Answer #1

9 . The answer is option E- No reaction

It is a kind of Fridel craft alkylation (RX+Alcl3). This reaction is known for alkylation of aromatic rings. The aromatic rings are generally electron rich so alkyl as an electrophile attacks the most electron rich sites of these aromatic rings.

The electron donating group on aromatic ring promotes this reaction by releasing electron density to the ring whereas electron withdrawing group sucks the electron density and makes the attack of incoming electrophile difficult.

Nitrobenzene contains most electron withdrawing group –NO2 in the ring, it sucks the electron density from ring. Without electron, electrophile would not be interested. so reaction is almost negligible.

if it occurs too much harsh conditions like temperature and strong electrophile (1-chlorobutane not strong) required which is not available here.
