Heart health can be determined by performing certain diagnostic tests. These diagnostic tests not just give information about heart health but also about the potential risks of heart diseases. There are various diagnostic tests that focus on heart health estimation and specifically on certain heart conditions and diseases.

The tests include Cardiac computed tomography (CT) angiography; Treadmill stress test; Nuclear stress test; Stress echocardiogram and Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) stress test.

Nuclear stress test is also known as nuclear perfusion study. This test is performed when the person is at rest (before exercise) and after exercise. A radioactive substance is injected intravenously. This substance travels to the heart and the images are captured by the camera. The presence of radioactive substance enables the formation of the image. The analysis of image can show areas of abnormal blood flow in the heart muscle as well as scarred areas of the heart. The narrowing of blood vessels that supply blood to the heart can also be observed. Thus, the percent functionality of heart muscles, blockages in coronary arteries and other heart muscle dysfunctions can be observed by the nuclear perfusion study.
