3. a) Two compounds that are likely to react with enzyme are models 3.1 and 3.2

b)

Substrate (poison) is 3.3

                                    Alcohol dehydrogenase                    Normal Product (3.1)

Inhibitor (treatment) is 3.2

c) Relationship between 3.1 and 3.3

Here in model 3.1 is the hydroxy acetaldehyde is the product which formed by dehydrogenation of substrate of 3.3 which is glyoxal or ethylene glycol.

Relationship between 3.2 and 3.3

In place of 3.3 we can use 3.2 which is a competitive inhibitor of glyoxal and inhibit the formation of 3.1. So 3.2 is the inhibitor and 3.3 is the substrate for same enzyme alcohol dehydrogenase.

d) Increase in the concentration of substrate 3.3 will decrease in the competitive inhibition. Along with that if we also increase the concentration of product 3.1 then also competitive inhibition will decrease.

e) The difference in the process of competitive with noncompetitive inhibition is that the inhibitor has structural resembles with the substrate but there is no structural similarity in non competitive process. Competitive inhibitor binds to the active site of enzyme replacing substrate but there is altogether binding at binding site during noncompetitive inhibition.
