Metered dose inhaler deliver specific dose of medicine to lungs.Dosing is consistent.Adequate drug is deposited in airways .It us in the form of aerosolized medicine.It is self administered by patient.All these make it possible for relief from asthma.
Mistakes made by patient
He should do this in stable position without hurry.
He should have tilted his head slightly backwards.
He should exhale completely before bringing aerosolized in to mouth.
MDI should be placed inside mouth and not towards cheek.
Inhaler should be pressed inside mouth while taking deep breath.
Hold breath for few seconds and exhale out.
Benefits of using spacers
Spacers are add on devices which acts as a holding chamber that hold the medicine and reduce speed at which it enters mouth.It makes it easier to use inhaler.Also it ensures more medicine gets in to lungs.
