A patient has a history of moderate persistent asthma for which he takes a combination inhaler of budesonide and formoterol. He also takes montelukast daily. His asthma has been fairly well controlled with this medication. The patient calls the health care provider’s office to report that he is experiencing some difficulty breathing, and feels congested in his chest. He also reports that he is wheezing. He asks if he should use his rescue inhaler or albuterol

ALBUTEROL :

Albuterol is a drug used as a bronchodilator which is used to prevent bronchospams, it is also used in exercise - induced bronchospasm.

When talking with the patients, one should ask :

  • Ask if the patient has any medical history such as heart disease, hypertension, Chronic heart disease, history of seizures, epilepsy, diabetes mellitus.
  • Ask if patient is pregnant or breast - feeding.
  • Ask if he is on any drug.
