consider temperature soundings - ground lever, 21C;500m, 20C; 600m, 19C;1000m. If an air parcel is released at 600m does it remain at 600, rise or sink?
According to the principle of atmospheric stability and lapse rate if a warm layer occurs above the air parcel then the parcel will rise due to the buyount lifting as the density of gas changes however when the air parcel was entered at 600 m the temperature of the layer above I. E at 1000m was 19c as compared to 20c at 600m so it will not rise
Now since the temperature of the bottom layer is more than that at 600 m so the gas will be less dense and so the air parcel will settle

4). Consider the mountain below. An air parcel at the western base of the mountain has a temperature of 22 C and a dewpoint of 17 C. As the air ascends and descends, it will either cool (or warm in the case of descent) at the dry adiabatic lapse rate of -10 C/km, or at the moist adiabatic lapse rate of -6 C/km. Remember, the equation for the lapse rate is SudT/dz. (T -Tita)/(z.-Z.). Answer the following questions....
6) It is found by careful measurement that the air temperature at ground level (z 0 m) is 20 degrees Celsius and 4 degrees Celsius at 2000m. found to follow a parabola, T(z) = az. bz + c. Further, the variation in temperature is Assume that a = 1e-6 and b =-0.01. a. A fire belches smoke into the atmosphere. To what elevation will the smoky air rise? Would this be a bad pollution condition? Hint: consider the DALR. Also...
