Two West Texas nurses working in the county hospital sent an anonymous complaint about a physician's standard of care to the Texas Medical Board in 2009. The physician complained to the county sheriff that he was being harassed. The sheriff assigned to investigate the case states that the nurses "circumvented hospital policy for reporting bad medical practices, didn't seek the patients' permission when they anonymously sent medical records of 10 patients to the Board, and didn't act in good faith." As a result of the sheriff's investigation, the district attorney filed charges on misuse of official information and these nurses faced up to 10 years in prison. Were ethical principles violated in this case? If yes- which ones and why? If no - Why not?

Answer #1

ethical principles are clearly violated in this case as it seems that the district attorney has some connection with the doctor and he is clearly trying to protect the sanctity of the doctor and the hospital.

For an anonymous complaint to be filed u dont need to have consent with the patient thats why it is anonymous

the nurses are only trying to show some light on the bad medical practices which is good and brave enough.

A Routine Endoscopic Procedure Our mother usually had an endoscopic procedure every 2 years. We thought that she had too many visits with her gastroenterologist. She saw the gastroenterologist about every 30 or 60 days. When we asked the physician why our mother had to come in on a continuous basis, his response was “acid reflux.” She was taking a proton pump inhibitor for her acid reflux. Our mother had an endoscopy of her upper gastrointestinal tract in September 2006....
