Multiple sclerosis is a chronic condition that affects the brain and spinal cord. The immune system attacks the myelin sheath which protects the nerve fibers. The autoimmune response damage to the myelin sheath causes inflammation and neurodegeneration of the white and grey matter. The nerve fibers fail to carry signals due to demyelination and lead to the symptoms of numbness and weakness of muscles, vision problems, Gait and mobility changes, bowel and bladder dysfunction, and tremor. If it is not treated, finally it disrupts the blood-brain barrier results in atrophy of the brain.
If multiple sclerosis is a disease of the central nervous system, explain how clinical problems are related to demyelinization of axons.

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disorder. Somewhere between 250,000 and 350,000 people in the US alone have been diagnosed with MS, most when they are between 20 to 40 years old. The disease can be quite debilitating. 1. Myelination and neurons affected by MS are in which area of the nervous system: CNS or PNS? Therefore, the type of myelinating cells that are attacked in MS are: 2. What are the plaques of MS and how do they happen?...
d. Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a disease in which the myelin sheaths are destroyed in the brain and spinal cord. With what process does this interfere and what would be the consequences? e. Discuss the two main factors to influence conduction speed of an action potential. BONUS: (2 points) Does a local potential guarantee the creation of an action potential? Explain.
