Material: Rational Functions

Between the speed of 50 miles/hour and 70 miles/hour, your gas mileage is a linear function of the speed at which you drive. Your car gets 40 miles/gal at a speed of 50 miles/hr and 30 miles/gal at a speed of 70 miles/hr. During a one-hour time period, your speed increases from 50 miles/hour to 70 miles/hour at a constant rate. How many gallons of gas does your car burn during this period? First, determine the number of gallons dG your car burns during the differential time period dt (measured in hours).
