Question

At VO2 consumption of an healthy adult is determined by

The normal resting oxygen consumption of healthy adult humans is determined by the: a. fact that resting cardiac output is about 5 L/min, thereby limiting blood flow to some organs. b. ability of tissue cells to extract oxygen from the capillary blood in the time available for c ability of pulmonary capillary blood to take up oxygen from alveolar gas in the time available d. oxidative energy requirements of the bodys cells, which are always met in the steady state exchange in the capillaries. (less than 1 sec) for exchange. None of the above. e.

Answer #1

VO2 max is known as the maximum oxygen uptake . It is a golden standard of fitness. The potential of the circulatory system to carry maximum oxygen and of the muscular system to convert oxygen into calories. VO2 max is an indicator of aerobic fitness. Its consumption in a healthy adult is determined by measuring the capability of the body to convert the consumed oxygen into energy for working muscles. VO2 max is determined in a healthy adult by calculating the maximum amount of blood your heart can pump i.e stroke volume.

9. Oxygen consumption is an indicator for person's level of aerobic fitness.Oxygen consumption is defined as the amount of oxygen intake by tissues in the body. Normal resting oxygen consumption level is  250 ml/min in coronary circulation(or 3.5 to 4.0 ml/kg/min) and about 5000 ml/min of whole systemic circulation.

a. Cardiac output (L/ min) = oxygen consumption per minute .At rest, left ventricle eject 5000 ml/min of blood  in both untrained as well as trained individuals. Cardiac output is the amount of blood pumped by each ventricle in a given time. It depends on the metabolic needs of the body. During exercise the cardiac output can increase fourfold to 20L/min . This increase is normally accomplished by approximate doubling of both heart rate and stroke volume.(answer)

b. Respiration i.e exchange of oxygen and carbon di oxide is the ability of tissue cells to extract oxygen from the capillary blood in  time available for exchange in capillaries.

c. ability of pulmonary capillary blood to take up oxygen from alveolar gas in the time available for exchange: It is the gas exchange mechanism.
