Answer #1

1. The abdominal surgery involving the intestine when cut open pours a lot of metabolites, this mixes with the blood, this activates the clothing factors in the blood and will lead to DIC if autotransfused

2.The technologist must give a value of the amount of blood in the suction canister taking into account the amount of blood in the suction tube also and give it in ml or litres

3.The sponges are weighed before surgery and the during the surgery the soaked sponges are weighed the difference in weight between the two gives the approximate amount of blood loss

4. This means the patient has B antigens A antibody and Rh antigen is absent

5.Blood label is first checked for expiry, blood group, whether it is whole blood or component of blood, then a small drop of the blood from the bag is mixed with the patients serum to test for cross matching

The type of anticoagulant used in the blood should also be noted
