Pulmonary embolism usually result from a blood clot in the leg that travel to the lung .

If the patient is standing over time or immobilized for a long timecan lead to deep vein thrombosis .

Deep vein throbosis is the major risk factor for pulmonary emnmbolism .

Pathophysiology : of pullmony embolism

* multiple emboli increase pulmonary vascular resistance- RV strain, increased afterload.

* When emboli travel to the lung, they lodge in the pulmonary vasculature.

* Blood flow is obstructed, leading to decreased perfusion of the section of lung supplied by vessel, resulting hyporemia.
