Can someone help me answer these questions? 1. How has international trade helped the average American? 2. How does international trade lead to more inequality (USA) 3.How important is NAFTA Explain....
1. Jobs. About 39 million American jobs are dependent on trade,
and trade is critical to the success of many U.S. economy
industries.
Growth. U.S. Over the past 25 years, actual manufacturing output
has risen by almost 80%. This is the continuation of a long trend:
U.S. value-added manufacturing has risen eightfold in real terms
since 1947.Company. 98% Of the approximately 300,000 U.S. companies
that export are small and medium-sized enterprises, accounting for
one-third of U.S. merchandise exports, the number of small and
medium-sized enterprises that export has increased about threefold
in the last two decades. Vast productivity gains related to
increased use of automation and IT have helped U.S. companies
sustain and in many ways boost their global competitiveness in
recent years, even as the number of Americans working in
manufacturing has decreased since its peak in 1979.
In 2018, U.S. manufactured goods exports reached almost $1.4
trillion, representing 56 percent of all U.S. exports.
In the midst of a renewed focus on increasing U.S. exports, it
is important to remember that imports are also advantageous to
Americans. To American families they offer lower prices and more
options as they try to stretch their budgets. Companies often rely
on raw material imports and materials that are competitively
priced.
Imports give us access to otherwise unavailable products such as
fresh winter fruit. Exposure to imports increases the average
American household's purchasing power by about $18,000 a
year.
Imports of intermediate goods, raw materials, and capital goods by
companies account for more than 60% of all U.S. imports of goods
lowering costs for manufacturers and other companies
2. If trade is the main factor behind the growing woes of unskilled workers in the traded goods industries, firms that do not produce internationally traded goods and services should take advantage of less skilled workers ' reduced wages by hiring more. If, on the contrary, they also begin to reverse the use of unskilled labor, it must be something other than (or other than) trade that lowers the demand for less skilled workers. While wage inequality and educational pay premiums moved across different industries in the same trend, liberalized trade may still explain the dramatic change toward greater inequality. Pay premiums for skills and education in a competitive and productive labor market must gradually rise and fall together across sectors, whatever the reason for the change in pay premiums. But there are also other developments at work. Economic deregulation, new immigration patterns in the United States, declining minimum wages, and dwindling labor union influence have also contributed to the job hardships of unskilled and semi-skilled workers. Liberal trade with the world's newly industrialized countries has certainly played a role in making America's unskilled workers ' job prospects worse.
3. NAFTA preserves the three countries ' copyright, patents and
trademarks. It was revised with the North American Environmental
Cooperation Agreement, which led to emissions control and more
environmental regulations.
Mexico has been purchasing more goods from the U.S. since NAFTA
took away tariffs from products sold between the U.S., Canada and
Mexico. Many claim that NAFTA has been good for Mexico, which has
witnessed declining poverty rates and increasing real income, while
others argue that NAFTA has had negative impacts on farmers in
Mexico who have experienced dropping food prices dependent on cheap
US imports. The bill excluded duties from the three countries on
goods traded. It also covers other countries ' copyright, patents,
and trademarks. It was revised with the North American
Environmental Cooperation Agreement, which led to emissions control
and more environmental regulations. It has also been revised with
the North American Labor Cooperation Agreement, which has helped
people fight for better working conditions.
