What are your thoughts about a vendor’s suggestion to scan all chart forms from all provider settings into one repository so they would be readily available when needed in an emergency?Would there need to be an additional piece of software to identify and locate the patients? What other issues would need to be addressed if this suggestion was carried through?

Computer Physician order entry ( CPOE ) system refers to the process whereby the medical professional entering and sending medication orders and treatment instructions electronically through a computer application instead of on paper charts, this system is otherwise called as Computerised provider order entry.

Most of the physicians who are affiliated with the community hospital have expressed their interest in acquiring HER system (Medical records) for their practice. They also thought that through this system they can get better access to the information they need to monitor the patients.

Nowadays there are competitions are going in between the vendors regarding the selling of the software to the hospital that all are focusing on the importance of the EHR rather than the pen and paper works. They are considering it as a traditional method and there is a difficulty in accessing the patient data regarding pharmacy, lab, etc...rather than an EHR.

Here in, the repository of data, a central location is used where the data is stored and retains the patient's confidentiality and easy access to information when needed in case of emergency, where the information is bundled in a single folder with the patient identification data on the cover.

$\rightarrow$ To identify and locate the patients some of the physicians purchased an additional piece of the software called stand-alone electronic prescribing device. In my view, the additional piece of software is not needed.

. $\rightarrow$ If the suggestions were carried out, the main issue facing is they can send the prescriptions to the major chain parameters in the community, not to the community pharmacy. Why because no one is there to handle the interface between the device and the clinical pharmacy in the hospital that would be needed for the CPOE.
