Answer #1

Angle between OA and OD, where O is center of slits, is equal to 3\lambda / d. 3 in 3\lambda / d is because point A is third bright spot point starting from central bright spot  D. \lambda is wavelength of light and d is distance between slits.

a) If wavelength decrease, angle between OA and OD decrease. There is no change in position of central bright spot. So A moves towards center.

b) Again angle decrease with increase in distance between slits, so A moves towards center.

c) Alternate Bright and dark spots are due to interference between light from two slits. As one slit is covered, only diffraction of light is observed from single slit. Light intensity continuously decrease from central bright spot D. Hence dark spot between A and B becomes brighter.

    2. Laser light with wavelength 1 = 600 nm is sent through a screen with N narrow slits spaced a apart from each other (e.g. if there are 3 slits, they are at 0, a, 2a). You observe the resulting diffraction pattern on a screen placed far (meters) away. The screen is curved, so that the distance of the screen to the slits is constant with angle. This simplification means you don't have to take into account longer paths for...

Please write neatly, preferably TYPE . :) THANK YOU ! 1) In a double slit experiment in which light from a laser arrives to two slits (at equal distance to the laser) with separation d= 1.4 x 10-4 m, one sees the first bright spot above the center at an angle 0 = 0.29º.
