Rules

1. Identify the longest carbon chain. Here the longest chain contains seven carbon atoms - "hept" and also the presence of double bonds in the compound make the suffix as "ene".

2. Identify all the substituents

3. Number the carbons of the longest carbon chain which gives the substituents lowest numbers.

4. Number of times the substituent groups occurs are indicates by di, tri, tetra...Here there are two methyl group as substituent groups. Therefore "di methyl"

IUPAC name : 2-dimethyl 3-heptene
